Mirthfully Medieval

Monte Sereno, Calif., 'Castle Dragon'
$234,300

Specs: A 790-square-foot, redwood playhouse, built around a tree

Features: Hand-carved, fire-breathing dragons flank the stage area of the theater. (Sticky floors and creaky seats not included.) Also on the lower level is a maze with secret doors and passageways. The enclosed clubhouse is waterproofed and password-protected to keep intruders out. But in case of a siege, there's a secret escape door under one of the benches. And as an antidote to idleness, there is a tube slide, a swinging bridge, a rope net, crazy bars and a rock-climbing wall.

Maker: Barbara Butler, San Francisco
