Barbara Butler's custom-made fort creates opportunities for adventurous play activities.
Barbara Butler creates highly detailed playhouses, forts, and tree houses for individual homes and for public playgrounds.
Butler’s firm creates custom structures as well as a range of preplanned models. One such structure is Christy’s Tree house, a two-story combination of a playhouse and a tree perch.
Christy’s Tree house requires at least one large tree to house the tree perch, which connects to the tree at a height of six feet. A 10-foot-long bridge connects the tree perch to the two-story playhouse, which contains a number of features including a secret escape door, a rock-climbing wall, a 12-foot steel fire pole, and a tube slide. The tree house also features a 110-foot zip line that extends from the tree stand to a second anchor tree.
The tree fort does not require an area with at least two large trees that must be far enough apart to take advantage of the zip line’s full length. For households and parks that can accommodate it however, Christy’s Treehouse is a safer alternative to homemade tree houses and features extensive opportunities for physical and imaginative play.
